(Rivista Internazionale - December 1994: The Activities of the St. John the Baptist Hospital - 3/3)

Rome. St. John the Baptist Hospital. Electric adjustable bed which, when first awakening, enable the preparatory systems to be reactivated for standing upright.

The wards have been recently restructured with an eye both to functionality and aesthetics, in tune with the concept of health care of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, for which the sick are the only real point of reference.
The medical staff, well qualified and continuously up-dated, devote part of their free time to teaching post-graduate courses for young doctors, courses recognised by the State health structures. A nurses' school was also set up in the hospital some years ago, training staff from both a technical and moral and humanitarian point of view.
Periodical conferences on the pathologies treated in the hospital have also been organised for some years now in St. John the Baptist's, attracting both national and international participants.
The hospital organisation as a whole provides highly qualified professional services and the best possible assistance in a serene and comfortable environment.

Rome. St. John the Baptist Hospital. Multidisciplinary scan for internal and cardiovascular diagnostics, installed in the new imaging department restructured in 1993 and equipped with leading-edge technologies thanks to the contribution of the Malta Pergami-Belluzzi-Baldi Foundation.

Work is performed throughout the hospital with commitment not only to the physical rehabilitation of the sick, but also, and with the same intensity, to the recognition and protection of their dignity as persons. The therapies are aimed not only at recovering motor and speech functions but also and above all at encouraging the patients' conscious reappropriation of their role in the family and social sphere and their recognition by civil society. The daily and patient dedication of the staff helps to encourage the reinsertion of each sick person in their environment, as self-sufficient as possible and aware of the possibility of performing a still profitable and valid function.
In such difficult times, in a society which attributes too much importance to material values, the Order, with its work, indicates an ancient but always new road to travel along, based on the sense of Charity and on the total acceptance of the Christian message of Fraternity and Solidarity.
