The International Prize "For the Dignity of the Elderly" awarded by the Matilde Maresca di Serracapriola Foundation, presided over by the Receiver of the Common Treasure, Count Carlo Marullo di Condojanni.

The International Prize «For the Dignity of the Elderly», established by the Matilde Maresca di Serracapriola Foundation of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, has been assigned to the «Fundacion Las Rosas de Ayuda Fraterna» directed by Msgr. Sergio Correa Gac in Santiago, Chile.

The prize judges - Franco Mannino, Michele Prisco, Gian Luigi Rondi and Renzo Vespignani - chaired by Count Carlo Marullo di Condojanni, President of the Foundation, were unanimous in deciding to award the coveted recognition to this charitable institution, created in 1967 to shelter and help the needy, and in particular the old.

Over 1500 old people are housed and assisted in its 16 centres located all over Chile. The Maresca Foundation prize, in its third edition this year, is awarded after examining a considerable number of candidates proposed, according to its regulations, by the national and international bodies of the Order of Malta world-wide.

The prize-giving ceremony took place on 4 November in the St. Clare Monastery in Naples, in the presence of the High Officers of the Order, numerous religious, civil and military authorities, as well as personalities from the world of culture.

During the event Father Ferdinando Castelli gave the talk reported in the article "We are as Old as Our Hopes" which follows.
